We use modern hammers which consist of two types, i.e. impact and vibratory.
The impact hammers are used to drive piles, pipes or other elements into the soil by vertical impact.
The vibratory hammers are used to drive sheet piles, pipes or other elements into the soil by vertical vibrations which 'loosen' the soil. The vibrated elements are then driven into the soil using the dynamic weight of the hammer. The loosened soil condition created by vibration is also effective for extracting sheet piles, pipes or other elements from the soil.
